Privacy Policy
What this covers
This policy explains what the ZIGZAG app and its public pages collect, why, who handles it for us, and the choices you have.
Your account
Your phone number, which signs you in, and what you add to your profile: name, handle, photo, bio, city, interests and links. When you join we also ask your first and last name, your birthday and, if you choose to tell us, your gender and email. Your birthday, gender and email are private and never show on your profile. On your birthday your picture carries a cake for 24 hours, and we may send you messages from the ZIGZAG account chosen by things like your country, city, age or gender. You can mute that chat at any time. You can skip gender and email. To stop abuse we keep the phone number and network address of sign-up attempts. If you join the waitlist on our website, we keep your email to tell you when ZIGZAG launches, and you can ask us to remove it at any time.
Location
When the map is open we use your location to show you the map, plans and places nearby. Your latest spot is stored on our server and linked to your account. Friends you choose can see it, and they stop seeing it after 8 hours. If you turn your spot off, it is removed.
Location history (footprints)
Unless you are off the map, we also store a history of the places you have been, linked to your account, so it follows you to a new phone. Each place is rounded to an area of about 300 metres, with a count of the days you were there and the last date. We keep up to 2,000 places. Only you can see them. To delete them, open the map, choose Footprints and tap the bin. They are also deleted with your account.
Arrived
If you turn on Arrived, the app checks your location in the background on your phone to notice when you reach home, then tells the people you chose.
What you share
Messages, photos, videos, voice notes, files, stories, Zigs, comments and calls. These are stored or passed through our servers so they can reach the people you send them to. Calls connect directly or through a relay and we do not record them.
Your face and camera
Lenses, filters and Zig Studio read your face on your phone to place effects. When you play a Zig, its track of how your face moved (position, turn, mouth, smile and blink) is saved with that Zig so the person you send it to can replay it. It is shown only as part of that Zig. We do not use it to identify you and do not build a face profile.
Contacts
If you allow it, the app reads the phone numbers in your contacts on your phone and sends them to us only as codes, to find friends already on ZIGZAG. We store the links between people who match.
What you do in the app
What you watch, like, save and skip, the times of day you use the app, the price ranges you look at, and scores and game results. We use this to choose your feed and to show ads from businesses on ZIGZAG. We do not sell your data and do not share it with ad networks or data brokers.
Payments
Purchases are handled by Apple, Google, RevenueCat or Stripe. We receive what you bought and its status. We never see your full card number.
Who handles data for us
Supabase (database, sign-in, files), Cloudflare (files, public pages, call relay), Twilio (sign-in text messages), Apple and Google (notifications and purchases), RevenueCat and Stripe (payments), and OpenFreeMap (map images, which see your network address and the area you are viewing). They process data only to provide these services. Some of them are outside your country, including in the United States.
How long we keep it
Until you delete it or delete your account, unless the law requires us to keep it longer, such as payment records. Stories and other timed content end when their time is up.
Deleting your account
In the app, open your account page and tap Delete account. Your account is then held for 90 days: your name, photo, posts, stories and live location are hidden from others, and you can restore everything by signing in. Your data stays on our servers during this time. After 90 days we permanently delete your account, profile, messages you sent, posts, files, location and footprints. Copies other people already saved can remain. Payment records we must legally keep are retained without your profile. Subscriptions bought through Apple or Google must be cancelled there.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, object to how we use it, or complain to your data protection authority. Write to us and we will respond within the time the law requires.
Children
ZIGZAG is not for children under 13, or under the minimum age for online services in your country. If you believe a child has an account, tell us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it applies.
